Vasamilla Malaridhu

Well, it has been a long break since I last posted. As some of you might know situation at my end didn't allow me to indulge in things that are close to my heart like karaoke blogging. That said, I need to announce in this forum my formal re-entry into stage singing, thanks to Jersey Rhythms now I am part of this awesome band. Based out of New Jersey, USA we perform to a wide variety of Indian audience in different South Indian languages as well as Hindi. When you have sometime, please visit www.jerseyrhythms.com for more info about this excellent band (not just because I am a part of it now :-)).

I had to re-start my karaoke blogging and when I was looking around for some good tracks, I stumbled upon this song from an old movie Oru Thalai Ragam. This movie brought to lime light T. Rajendar as a film & music director and this movie in a way was a stepping stone for many other successful films from him.

This particular song sung by SP Balasubramanian is a very simple number with not much to it. It use to be at the top of the charts during its time and was a definite radio jockey's favorite.

I am sure this song will bring back memories to some of you. Enjoy, get nostalgic and drop in your comments.

Mandram Vantha Thendral

Well, it has been a while since I last blogged. Hectic work schedule didn't permit me to indulge in things that are close to my heart. That said, this next song is from the film Mouna Raagam. This wonderful song was sung by SPB for Illayaraja's music and lyrics owned by Kavingar Valli.

As I had mentioned in one of my earlier blogs (wherein I sang another song from this same film), this movie was filled with super hit songs and to some extent Illayaraja shares the success of this Maniratham's movie.

While my initial plan was to do some other song this week, I ended up doing this one (not that I regret); my nephew who is a die-hard fan of Raja made a special request to do this one.

I think I did some justice to this wonderful SP Balasubramanian's song (though added my creativity in some places), and I hope you enjoy listening.

As always, please leave your comments

Ena Satham Inda Neram

This next Illayaraja's classic is from the film Punnagai Mannan; a song sung by SP Balasubramanian for onscreen action by Kamalahasan & Rekha.

All the songs from this movie ended up being hit, especially this one was at the top of the charts for a long time. Kamal played dual role in this K.Balachandar's movie which sure raked in lots of $$$.

I am a great Raja's fan and intend to do many more of his songs, I like this song and think you all like it as well while bringing back memories from the 80's.

I think I have made a decent attempt at making this karaoke with my own imaginations in few places with the hope you'd appreciate it. As always, listen, enjoy and kindly leave your comments.

Unga Ponana Kaigal

My next song is another PB Srinivas's rendition from the film Kadhalika Neeram Illai. What a movie it was! simply superb. It's such a riot that I cannot stop laughing even after seeing this movie innumerable times, a thorough entertainer.

Performance by Muthuraman, Nagesh, Balaiah, Rajashri were amazing. Acting by relatively newcomers like Sachu, Ravichandran & Kanchana were also commendable. Infact, during most of the scenes where Sachu is paired with Nagesh, it was obvious that she had a tough time controlling her laughter, such was Nagesh's hilarious acting.

This song in the screen is performed by Ravichandran when he tries to win his heroine's heart. Originally sung by PBS with his silky smooth voice, MS Viswanathan scored the music for this wonderful Kannadasan lyrics.

Unfortunately, I couldn't get a good karaoke track and had to put up with one that had a lot of popping sound and was jumping around. Still, I was compelled to do this song with whatever I had and hope you like it.

As always, feel free to comment.

Tum Se Hi

Today has not been a great day for me; however, I thought I'll post my karaoke blog that I made couple of days ago but never had time to post it. This next song is from the Hindi film "Jab We Met", a feel good romantic comedy movie, that revolves around Shahid Kapur & Kareena Kapoor. Background score was rendered by upcoming music director Pritam and this particular song was sung by Mohit Chauhan.

In fact after the success of this film, it was made in Tamil as well under the title "Kandein Kadhalai" starring Bharath and Tamannaah. Rarely you'll find remakes equally good as the original. I have seen both the versions and I liked them both.

I started doing this song few days a ago but due to work schedules couldn't complete it in a timely manner, but eventually finished it 2 days ago. I like this song for its catchy tune and peppy beat. I hope you'll like this karaoke and as always, please feel free to drop a few lines in the comments box below.

Kalangalil Aval Vasantham

This next olden goldie is from the movie Paava Manipu. A super hit movie at that time was made with all the right ingredients like Starring Sivaji Ganesan, Gemini Ganesan, Savithri, Devika... background score by Viswanathan-Ramamurthy, Lyrics by Kannadasan & direction - Bhimsingh, Wow! what a team.

This song was originally sung by PB Srinivas for Gemini Ganesan on screen. The comparison that Kannadasan makes in this song wherein he equates a women to natures best etc. is simply amazing, what an imagination!

As always, please listen and provide your comments.

Nandan Charitram Day

What a wonderful evening it was! I was blown away by the amazing talent our young Vidwans exhibited on 10th April 2010 under the auspice of Nandan Charitram Day sponsored by Dharma Palana Sabha, NY USA. Thanks to Mr. Swaminathan & Suseela Swaminathan for their commitment and untiring effort to have made this event a reality.

Children of all ages groups participated in this wonderful and amazing musical evening to celebrate the life story of Nandanar through select songs from Gopalakrishna Bharati's archives. The effort, practice & commitment shown by both children and their teachers his highly appreciable. This along with several other events that are organized to showcase our young Vidwans talents is an excellent opportunity for these budding musicians to grow and nurture our Indian culture and tradition.

Kudos to all the parents who amidst their busy personal schedule continue to stay committed to ensure that our culture and traditions are safeguarded.

While the evening was also an opportunity to raise fund in support of the much deserved Dayananda Sarawathi Ashram's initiative to re-initiate and energize the "Oduwars" in South Indian Temples, it provided an wonderful platform for these youngsters to learn and exhibit story of a pariah who became a saint.

I am confident our Indian culture and traditions are safe in these young hands and I am sure you'll agree once you see these videos capturing the moments on that wonderful evening of 10th April 2010 in Bridgewater Temple Auditorium, NJ USA.

Kaatrin Mozhi

This next Vairamuthu's penned song has to be amongst one of his best; amazing lyrics with imaginative meaning associated with it. A very simple melody composed by Vidyasagar and originally sung by Balram (I guess) for the film Mozhi.

I liked its simplicity and as soon as the original audio came out this song took a spot in my popular melodies playlist. Praskash Raj, Prithivi Raj & Jyothika acted in this movie which is one of those movies that did not do well in its opening week but started picking up momentum after the initial week by word of mouth. If you haven't seen this movie yet, its worth picking it up from your nearest library and enjoy a clean movie with some amazing acting by Jyothika.

This being one of the popular song amongst other good ones from this movie, I wanted to do this karaoke for a while now. As always, listen and enjoy and provide your comments.

Ithu Oru Ponmalai Pozhudu

This next song is one of those types that will remain evergreen and that something we never get bored of listening. Such awesome melody could be composed by none other than our favorite Illayaraja. Originally sung by melody mannan SPB this scintillating song remained at the top of the charts for many months (maybe even years), and rightly so.

A very simple melody composed with amazing use of instruments which includes violin & tabla.

Whenever & wherever I hear this song I break out humming along with it and this song simply lifts the moment.

I enjoyed singing this song and I hope you enjoy listening it and reminiscing those days...

As always, listen, enjoy & please comment.

Noorondu Nenapu - Kannada

You could say excitement, enthusiasm etc etc. because of my new microphone but this is definitely playing catch up after a brief period of blogs drought. I don't recall having produced 2 songs in such quick succession.

Anyway, this next song is from the Kannada film Bhandana starring Vishuvardhan & Suhasini. Produced in 1984, this movie raked in $$$ for the producer. While this is of the genres pathos, this has that nice beat / rhythm and not as slow as a typical patho song. SPB sang this original score with such ease that it makes one believe this whole recording might have taken him under an hour to wrap it up. However, if you listen carefully, you'll notice that this song has some high notes and emotions to be exhibited that plays quite well on the screen.

The music director for this movie was Mr. Ranga Rao has other catchy songs as well.

Enjoy my karaoke of this nice song but try not to get emotional :-)

Mudhal Mudhal Parthen

Well, things have been pretty busy at my end which has impacted the rate at which I am able to indulge in my passion, you know what I mean. However, between my busy work schedules I was able to buy a new microphone (which was long overdue) and I believe this will help me in better sound reproduction.

This next song is from one of my favorite movie "Priyasakhi" starring Madhavan & Sadha. A very simple story line involving love, family etc. This is one of the very few movies which I have seen in the recent years which were close to reality with minimal melodrama. This song was originally sung by a new singer (I guess) Uma Maheshwaran for a tune composed by Bharathwaj. As you might find out this is a very melodious and deliberately slow song that captures a romantic moment in the movie.

As I have said, I like this movie and all of its songs and thought you'll like this song. So, go ahead and enjoy my karaoke and let me know your thoughts.

Pon Ondru Kanden

This next song has been in planning for a while though executed just recently.

From the Tamil movie Padithal Matum Podhuma, this is probably one of the most quoted songs when referring to friendship (more so in a satirical way). The composers for this song were Vishwanathan & Ramamurthy for Kannadasan's lyrics, sung by TM Soundarajan & PB Srinivas.

My nephew is an aspiring singer and we were thinking of performing a duet for at least couple of years. Well, here we are with this song. While I honestly felt this could have been better, I still wanted to post it and maybe encourage him to do more.

The beauty of this recording was that we did this sitting remotely (in our respective towns) as separate tracks and eventually synced it in my software.

As always, please listen, enjoy & comment.

Kannale Pesi Pesi...

Happy New Year! to all of you.

Since the dawn of 2010 I haven't had a chance to blog and the primary reason for that being busy work schedule; anyway, I am back with a new song to begin 2010.

This song is a golden oldy from the hilarious film Adutha Veetu Penn. Staring TR Ramachandran, Anjali Devi & Thangavelu, this amazing movie was made in Hindi as well titled Padosan. This melodious song was sung by PB Srinivas and music was composed by Adi Narayana Rao.

I was recently watching Jaya TV and the program was an interview of Mr. PB Srinivas; I was really awe struck at the range of songs he has sung most of them remain popular even till this day.

This particular one was such a great song, that it will remain evergreen and I thought it will bring back memories to folks from earlier generation and I am sure youngsters from current generation will be able to appreciate the simplicity of this song. The original score sung by PB Srinivas in his inimitable melodious voice really captivates our imagination.

As always, listen, enjoy & please comment.
