Nila Kaigirathu Neram Theigirathu

This wonderfully melodious Hariharan song from the film Indira is one of my favorite song. Though the movie itself wasn't commercially successful, most of the songs in this movie were good; particularly this one was a topper. I guess AR Rehman liked his creation so much he made this song in both male and female versions and honestly both were very pleasing. One other song I just love from this movie is "Thoda Thoda Malarndhadhena Poove", maybe if I get a good karaoke track I can attempt it later.

I couldn't get a good karaoke track of this song; nevertheless, given the melody of this song which is very compelling, I just did with what I had. Hope you like it.

Enough said, enjoy the song.

Behati Hawa Sa Tha Woh

My next song is from the award winning Hindi movie liked by folks from across the Indian sub-continent "3 Idiots". This movie adapted from the novel Five Point Someone by Chetan Bhagat starred Aamir Khan, R. Madhavan, Sharman Joshi & Kareena Kapoor. Within short span of its release this movie broke all box-office records for collections which of course was later out performed by our Thalaivar Rajni's Enthiran.

With some outstanding songs and background musical score, the songs from this movie was at the top of the charts at its time. Its worth mentioning here that Swanand Kirkire lyricist for "Behti Hawa Sa Tha Wo" won a National Award for this song. A very pleasant melody originally sung by Shaan and music directed by Shantanu Moitra.

As always, I have tried to reproduce the onscreen magic with some of my own imagination and I hope you like it.

Netru Illada Matram Ennadu

This next song was a super hit from the film Pudhiya Mugam. Revathi was at her peak of acting career; and I should say, though this movie was a box office disaster, she pretty much carried the weight of this movie on her shoulders. While the awesome combo Vairamuthu & AR Rehman created this magical song, local radio stations never stopped playing this number for a long time. This song some what had a velvette & smooth feel. The music was crisp and sharp and the recording of this song had a fresh touch to it.

The songs from this movie were later reused in the Hindi movie Vishwavidhaata & the soundtrack was also released in Telugu as Padmavyuham. The film was directed by Suresh Menon (who also played the lead role), one time husband of Revathi.

While the original song was sung by Sujatha for Revathi on screen, I liked its lyrics therefore made a karaoke. I am sure you'll enjoy this song as well.

Apki Ankhon Mein Kuch...

While I realize my blogs are becoming fewer this year, I am going to work towards getting more regular with my updates. That said, my motivation for this song was from "youtube" and thanks to a good friend back in India who brought this to my attention. This Hindi song is one of my all time favorite.

From the film Ghar, this Kishore Kumar & Lata Mangeshkar song is evergreen. Such melodies by RD Burman are timeless. On screen Rekha was absolutely amazing.

I thoroughly enjoyed watching this song on youtube and ofcourse loved singing it for you all. For those of you who would like to watch the video of this song here is a youtube link http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K4wbgr386QU&feature=share. After some sound card issues on my computer, I was able to complete the male vocals of this song. Hope you enjoy!

Mun Paniya

It has been a while since I last updated my karaoke blog. Work pressure plus my busy schedule with our band Jersey Rhythms has really kept me away from this passionate exercise. Well now that I am back, lets talk music.

Past weekend saw some awesome carnatic music performances by TM Krishna & KJ Jesudas in New Jersey under the auspices of SIMHANA. That said, we at Jersey Rhythms have been busy at work performing for ASHA for Education a philanthropic organization focused in educating the poor and down trodden in India. Additionally, we have been rehearsing for our upcoming show in Atlanta for Georgia Tamil Sangam. Given all of the above, I still wanted to do this karaoke blog for 2 reasons: 1. Obviously it has been a while and long overdue. 2. My nephew insisted that I do this song.

This song is from the movie Nandha, starring Surya and Laila. Music was by Yuvan Shankar Raja and as you'd expect he has scored some awesome songs in this movie. This song in particular sung by SP Balasubramanian touches high notes / chords and to some extent proved to be a challenge. As always, I have tried to give it a shot and hope you like it. Enough said, now enjoy this melody penned by Pazhani Bharathi.

Santhanamum Jevathum

Happy New Year! to everyone. I wish you all a Happy, Prosperous and Healthy 2011.

I wanted to start my 2011 blogs with a happy number and narrowed my choice to this peppy number from the movie Valli. Apparently, this movie was produced by Rajnikanth and ended being a moderate success. Music & background score was by none other than Illayaraja. This particular song sung by SP Balasubramanian & SN Surendar was really awesome 1. From the perspective of its presentation 2. Foot tapping rhythm 3. Its casualness.

As a topping to an ice cream, I had the privilege of singing this song with my nephews and my daughter who lent their voice in finishing this song. While I would agree we could have done this better, I need to confess that we completed this song from scratch in less than 1 hour with almost all of the singers except myself not knowing this song. Given the above, I wanted to congratulate these youngsters volunteering to experiment.

As always listen, enjoy & please leave your constructive criticism .

Vasamilla Malaridhu

Well, it has been a long break since I last posted. As some of you might know situation at my end didn't allow me to indulge in things that are close to my heart like karaoke blogging. That said, I need to announce in this forum my formal re-entry into stage singing, thanks to Jersey Rhythms now I am part of this awesome band. Based out of New Jersey, USA we perform to a wide variety of Indian audience in different South Indian languages as well as Hindi. When you have sometime, please visit www.jerseyrhythms.com for more info about this excellent band (not just because I am a part of it now :-)).

I had to re-start my karaoke blogging and when I was looking around for some good tracks, I stumbled upon this song from an old movie Oru Thalai Ragam. This movie brought to lime light T. Rajendar as a film & music director and this movie in a way was a stepping stone for many other successful films from him.

This particular song sung by SP Balasubramanian is a very simple number with not much to it. It use to be at the top of the charts during its time and was a definite radio jockey's favorite.

I am sure this song will bring back memories to some of you. Enjoy, get nostalgic and drop in your comments.
